Extension of the toll exemption for zero-emission vehicles and new log-on option with TollNow

Berlin,

The Fourth Act amending toll regulations came into force today. It contains regulations for two aspects - the extension of the toll exemption for emission-free vehicles and the introduction of an additional log-on option in the truck toll system with TollNow.

The existing toll exemption for zero-emission trucks, which was previously limited until the end of 2025, will be extended until 30 June 2031. The German government is thus utilising the full period of exemption permitted by the European Eurovignette Directive.

Toll Collect offers the opportunity to register zero-emissions vehicles as toll-exempt. This means unnecessary stops, checks and investigations are avoided.

To the online toll exemption

Die Registrierung von bereits als mautbefreit erfassten, emissionsfreien Fahrzeugen wird von Toll Collect automatisch bis zum 31. Dezember 2027 verlängert.

The Fourth Amendment Act to the toll regulations also creates the legal basis for TollNow, an option for semi-automatic toll log-on via smartphone or tablet. The TollNow app records the toll section travelled during the journey. It is a practical solution, especially for occasional drivers who prefer spontaneous route planning. Unlike the previous manual log-on to the toll system via the Internet and app, it is not necessary to book the toll in advance.

The iOS version of TollNow will be released in January 2026.
